According to Oxford dictionary the meaning of sedition is “a conduct or speech inciting rebellion against the authority of a state”. There was a lot of pandemonium across the country on this “sedition laws” after the case of cartoonist Aseem Trivedi who cartooned the two lions on our national emblem as the two flesh eating foxes which resembles the politicians of our country.
Coming to the history of sedition laws, it was a British act and section 124A of Indian Penal Code (IPC) states that “whoever by words either spoken or written or by signs or by visible representation or otherwise attempts to bring hatred towards the government shall be punished with imprisonment.”
The Prima facie of these sedition laws violates “Right to freedom of speech” of Article 19[1] in our constitution. Scrapping of this law is being supported by Mr.Katju (Chairman of Press Council of India), Mayank Gandhi (member of India Against Corruption) and many other influential people. In a democracy Politicians must learn how to accept criticism instead calling Aseem a ‘Greenhorn’.
Aseem said that it was his total poignancy towards the corruption of these leaders made him to cartoon. Upholding the sedition law, Supreme Court (Kedarnath singh Vs State of Bihar) said that it should apply only to cases when an accused person intended to create public disorder or incite violence. How far the government is correct in putting Mr.Trivedi in jail on the sedition charges if he is not creating any public disorder, even not creating any communal violence? Hence there is a need to review this sedition law and its existence always will be a culpable mark on this biggest democratic country. India must scrap this repressive sedition laws. Trivedi’s cartoons mainly criticize the current Corrupted political leaders. I request all the politicians to stop their worthless hegemony towards the citizens-aam admi and standby as Pantheons for the present Young India
JAI HIND!!!!
